Coming Fall 2018

A new voice in the critical conversation.

Who decides what’s good? When it comes to media, the answer is usually: men. The overwhelming majority of critics published and aggregated by major outlets are male. That means the scores you see on sites like Rotten Tomatoes come from mostly male perspectives. CherryPicks is a new voice in the critical conversation. We’ll give you reviews from exclusively female critics in film, tv, music and more. This is where you can find out what women like, and what they don’t.

Ocean's 8 dir. by Gary Ross Wide Release in Theaters Now!   "Crashing a ball means gush-worthy makeovers, but Ocean’s 8 also cleverly subverts the sexy-spy trope by playing with the idea that women can make themselves invisible by choosing not to court male attention." –  Inkoo Kang  (Slate)

Pose  created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk & Steven Canals Sundays on FX! "Featuring the largest-ever cast of transgender actors,  Pose  applies classical narrative storytelling to nontraditional subject matter that was always considered too niche to carry its own production. You’ve never seen anything like it on television before." –  Diana Tourjee  (Time)

The Incredibles 2  dir. by Brad Bird Wide Release in Theaters Now!   "What Incredibles 2  excels at is its animation — it is an absolute delight to look at with its fabulous mix of retro and high tech design, the pops of colour and its overall dynamic aesthetic. It’s as if someone blended the Jetsons with a Rock Hudson movie and dialled it up to 300 per cent." –   Wenlei Ma  (news.com.au)

Set it Up  dir. by Claire Scanlon Steaming on Netflix Now! "Both Zoey Deutch and Charlie Powell give humorous performances as our two lead protagonists as well as Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu are a delight to see in this lighthearted romantic comedy. Set It Up is cute, sweet, funny and yes predictable but it does what it sets out to do and that is to entertain — which it executes very well." –  Jamie Broadnax (Black Girl Nerds)

Nancy  dir. by Christina Choe Limited Release in Theaters Now! "...Nancy is so closed off we can’t get a handle on her. What’s left is a strange, sour tale that’s neither origin mystery nor journey of self-discovery, but a vexing gesture toward damage and delusion that never permits us to peek under its broken heroine’s hood." –  Jeannette Catsoulis  (The New York Times)

so sexy so sad  by Lykke Li Streaming and Available for Purchase Now! "Loss is still her focus, but it’s approached with a lighter touch than the wall-of-sound production and mournful vocals that preceded it. If anything she’s gone farther back still, using the sensuality that made Wounded Rhymes’  “Get Some” so impactful as a template." –  Juana Giaimo  (SPIN)
