Best Buy TV Return Policy 2026: 15-Day Window, Plus & Fees

Billy C. Williams

Best Buy's current standard return period for most products is 15 days from the day you receive the TV. My Best Buy Plus and Total members may receive 60 days on most products, but Marketplace purchases are excluded from that member extension. A TV return also depends on like-new condition, all accessories and packaging, the seller, the delivery method and the return channel.

This 2026 update uses Best Buy's current Returns & Exchanges policy and membership terms. The order page controls the deadline for a specific TV; holiday and seller exceptions can change the result.

Quick answer for 2026

For a TV sold and shipped by Best Buy, begin with the date it was delivered. Standard customers generally have 15 days to return or exchange most products; My Best Buy Plus and Total members generally have 60 days for most products. The TV must be in like-new condition with its contents and packaging, and a large TV may not qualify for the ordinary prepaid parcel label.

Decision check Current rule to verify
Standard window Most products: 15 days from receipt.
Plus/Total Most products: 60 days, but the membership extension does not apply to Marketplace purchases.
Condition Return in like-new condition with original contents and packaging; damage, scratches or missing major contents may lead to denial or a deduction.
Large TV shipping Best Buy says TVs over 50 inches cannot use the standard prepaid return-by-mail label; contact Best Buy for the available return/pickup instructions.
Refund Mail returns are processed within 7–10 business days after receipt, then the bank may need additional time.

When the TV return clock starts

Best Buy says the return period begins the day you receive the product. Count from the delivery date shown in the order record, not the date you first turn the TV on or the date you finish installing it.

Open and inspect the TV promptly. A wall-mounted or installed TV is harder to return safely, and delaying the inspection can leave less time to report shipping damage, missing parts or a defect.

Standard 15-day return policy

Best Buy's current policy lists 15 days for most products for standard customers. It applies to new, clearance, open-box, refurbished and pre-owned products sold and shipped by Best Buy unless a product-specific exception says otherwise.

A TV is not automatically granted a longer return period simply because it is expensive or difficult to install. Check the order details and policy displayed for the exact model, seller and purchase date.

My Best Buy Plus and Total: 60 days with limits

Best Buy's current membership terms state that Plus and Total members receive a 60-day return and exchange period on most products. The benefit does not apply to Marketplace purchases, and all other return conditions still apply. Membership status must be active and associated with the order when the benefit is used.

Do not purchase a membership after the fact and assume the TV's original deadline changes. Verify the order's return date in your account and read the current membership terms, especially if the TV came from a third-party seller or a special program.

Marketplace TVs are a separate risk

Best Buy says Marketplace products generally have the same standard policy unless noted, but Plus/Total extended return timeframes do not apply to Marketplace purchases. The Marketplace seller may handle the inspection, label, pickup and refund.

Before checkout, look for “sold by” and “shipped by.” Save the seller name, delivery promise and return instructions. Do not assume a third-party listing has the same support or large-TV pickup process as a Best Buy-sold TV.

Condition, packaging and accessories

Best Buy says returned items need to be in like-new condition. A TV can be denied if it is damaged, dented, scratched, unsanitary or missing major contents. Keep the remote, stand, screws, manuals, cables, foam inserts, box and protective film until the return decision is final.

Reset the TV, remove personal accounts and wipe network credentials before returning it. If you used a streaming account, do not leave it signed in for the next owner or the inspection team.

How to return a TV

  1. Open the Best Buy order page and select return/exchange options before the deadline.
  2. Choose the reason accurately, especially if the TV arrived damaged, defective or incorrect.
  3. Ask whether the TV should go to a store, a return center or a scheduled pickup.
  4. Repack the TV with its original protective materials; do not force a damaged panel into an unsafe box.
  5. Photograph the TV, serial number, box and contents before handoff and keep the receipt/tracking record.
  6. Track the refund or exchange through the order page.

Best Buy offers in-store returns for many online and store purchases. For a TV over 50 inches, the policy says the ordinary prepaid shipping-label route is unavailable, so contact Best Buy for instructions rather than handing a large panel to a parcel carrier.

Damaged, defective or incorrect TVs

If a TV arrives damaged in shipping, defective or different from what you ordered, Best Buy says to return it during the applicable return period so it can arrange a replacement. For a mail return of an oversized TV, call Best Buy for special instructions. Marketplace damage must be reported through the Marketplace order flow to the seller.

Photograph the exterior carton, internal foam, panel and serial label before discarding packaging. Do not accept a visibly damaged delivery without documenting it and checking the carrier/Best Buy instructions.

Restocking fees and deductions

Best Buy's current restocking-fee table lists activatable devices, drones, cameras, lenses, projectors and certain other categories; it does not list ordinary televisions in the quoted fee table. Other deductions can still arise if accessories or packaging are missing, and Marketplace sellers may apply policy-specific restrictions.

Return shipping can be free with a Best Buy prepaid label where that channel is available, but the label process displays an estimated return shipping fee and large TVs are excluded from that ordinary label route. Confirm the actual fee and pickup terms before moving the TV.

Refund timing and exchange choice

Best Buy says mail returns are generally processed within 7–10 business days after the return reaches the warehouse, followed by additional bank processing time. Refunds usually go to the original payment method, with gift-card and payment-method exceptions.

If you exchange for the same model, check whether the replacement is a new order or an exchange under the current order. Keep the old TV's serial number, return receipt and replacement confirmation until the case is closed.

Sources and freshness

Primary Best Buy pages checked for this refresh:

These pages were checked on August 24, 2026. Return windows, membership terms, delivery methods and Marketplace exceptions can change; use the live order page as the final deadline source.

Bottom line

For most Best Buy TVs, plan around a 15-day standard return window from receipt; Plus/Total members may have 60 days on most eligible non-Marketplace products. Keep the TV like new, save every accessory and box, inspect it quickly, and ask Best Buy about oversized-TV pickup instead of assuming a normal prepaid parcel return will work.
