Amerisleep AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5 Mattress Review (2023 Update)

Wade E. Baker

Amerisleep is a leading mattress brand known for its innovative foam mattresses. They offer five different mattress models - the AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4 and AS5 - each with a unique construction and firmness level. In this review, we’ll break down the key features of each Amerisleep mattress model and provide updated 2023 pricing information to help you find your perfect match.

Amerisleep is a quality mattress brand that has been selling mattresses online for nearly a decade. They offer five different bio-foam mattresses because one mattress doesn’t work for everyone, they offer mattresses with the following firmness levels:

We had two samples to review and given the similarities between the styles and consistency of quality, we believe the two mattresses we were able to try give us a good sense for all five styles. Amerisleep makes a quality bio-foam mattress that is more eco-friendly than many foams and comes with a 20-year warranty.

The best mattress for a specific individual is based on their sleeping style, weight, and whether they sleep alone or with a partner.

Amerisleep’s five mattresses have several features in common with variations that adjust the firmness level to make it suitable for sleepers with different sleeping styles and body sizes.

Construction of the Amerisleep Mattresses

The Celliant® Cover

All five mattresses have the amazing Celliant® cover. If the features of the cover weren’t backed by scientific testing, you might not believe it could do what it does. The Celliant® cover is crafted from 13 thermoreactive materials that are woven into a yarn that converts the heat from your body into infrared energy that is reflected back into your body. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) determined that Celliant® increases blood flow to the muscles and speeds recovery in sore muscles and allows you to get a more restful sleep.

Amerisleep is officially licensed to use Celliant® in the covers of their mattresses. Celliant® is determined to be a medical device in the category of general wellness device by the FDA.

It is also soft to the touch, so much so that one of our testers laid down and took a nap on it without a sheet. But no problem, the cover is machine washable which is a big plus. The Celliant® is woven right into the fibers so washing the cover doesn’t decrease its ability to increase blood flow or help you sleep deeply.

Bio-Core™ Base Layer

All five mattresses have the Bio-Core™ base layer with slight differences. The AS1’s 8-inch Bio-Core™ layer is thicker than the support layer in the other four mattresses by 1-inch, and denser by 5 ILD than the other four mattresses. These aspects of the AS1 contribute to the firmness that makes it appropriate for back and stomach sleepers who enjoy a firm mattress.

The other four mattresses have a 7-inch Bio-Core™ base layer with 35 ILD and a 1.5-pound density.

This firm base layer won’t sag. This is one key reason Amerisleep is able to offer a 20-year warranty on its mattresses.

Bio-Core™ foam is partially made from plants that replace petroleum used in traditional memory foam mattresses, which makes it more eco-friendly that a typical memory foam mattress.

The Bio-Core™ base layer is the bottom layer of the mattress and provides a firm base of support for the mattress.

Bio-Pur™ Comfort Layer

All five mattresses also include a Bio-Pur™ comfort layer. AS1 and AS2 have a 2-inch comfort layer. AS3 and AS5 both have a 3-inch comfort layer. AS4 has a 4-inch comfort layer.

The Bio-Pur™ comfort layer rests just below the Celliant® cover so it is the first layer you feel when you lay on the mattress. The open-cell structure wicks heat away from you while you sleep to help you stay cool. Using plant materials in place of petroleum to make the foam makes it five times more breathable than traditional memory foam. It won’t sleep hot!

The 10 ILD, 4-pound density provides a comfortable, cool surface that makes it easier to sleep comfortably. Bio-Pur™ bounces back fast so you don’t feel stuck, which allows your body to move easily on the mattress without waking up. The technologically advanced open-cell structure wicks warm air away to help you stay cool while you sleep.

Affinity Layer with HIVE® Technology

Four Amerisleep mattresses (AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5) include an Affinity Layer with HIVE® technology. The Affinity Layer is firmer than the Bio-Pur™ comfort layer but softer than the Bio-Cure™ base layer. The ILD varies because it is how Amerisleep creates the various firmness levels. We’ll talk more about this layer in the individual mattress descriptions.

The Affinity Layer helps keep your body on the bed, so you feel as if you’re floating instead of feeling as if you’re in the bed. The Affinity layer is a transitional layer between the softer comfort layer on top of the AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5 that keeps your body separated from the firm support layer. It supports your weight evenly and reduces pressure in areas where pressure points can cause pain.

HIVE® is an acronym that stands for Harnessing Intelligent Ventilation & Energy. Tests show that the Affinity Layer reduces pressure points by 49%, which reduces pain. It is comprised of foam hexagons that are grouped into comfort zones for your head, shoulders & back, hips, upper leg & knee, and lower leg. By providing zoned support customized to each area of your body, your spine remains in alignment without putting too much pressure on your joints.

See how the middle of the weighted balls line up, just like your spine will line up on an Amerisleep mattress.

Greenguard Fire Sock

All five Amerisleep mattresses use a GreenGuard certified fire sock to meet the required flame-retardant requirements without toxic chemicals. It is made using rayon fiber and natural cellulose. The way a mattress satisfies the flame-retardant requirements is an important consideration. Some mattresses use toxic chemicals because it is a cheaper way to satisfy fire retardant requirements. Fortunately, Amerisleep isn’t a company that sacrifices your safety for profits by using cheap fire retardants.

The AS2, AS3, and AS4, have three inner layers. The AS5 has four layers. Each layer is designed to help you sleep well.

Made Eco-Friendly in the USA

Amerisleep mattresses are made in Indiana using plant-based eco-friendly materials that are also CertiPUR-US certified. They use a special process, Variable Pressure Foaming, that captures any emissions generated during the production process, making the production process eco-friendly. The company is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. As of this writing, the process Amerisleep employs is the only one that exceeds the requirements mandated by the Clean Air Act. The process also improves the ability to produce consistent foam because humidity, pressure, and temperature can be controlled more than it is possible to do in the open chambers used by other manufacturers.

Amerisleep Mattresses (Detail Construction By Models)

AS1

The AS1 has a streamlined 2-layer construction of Amerisleep’s advanced pressure-relieving Bio-Pur foam over their durable high-density Bio-Core support foam. It offers incredible spinal support with a very firm feel best suited for back and stomach sleepers who like sleeping “on” vs “in” their mattress.

The AS1 is the firmest mattress Amerisleep offers. With just two layers, it is 10-inches of firm comfort and support that is ideal for back and stomach sleepers. There is an 8-inch Bio-Core™ layer with a 2-inch Bio-Pur™ comfort layer surrounded by a GreenGuard certified fire sock, topped by the Celliant® cover.

Back and stomach sleepers who want firm support will find the extra support they crave in Amerisleep’s AS1. The AS1 is not recommended for people with heavier bodies who want a firm mattress. The AS2 is better for back and stomach sleepers who have a heavier body. In the mattress industry, weight is the only factor that determines whether someone should opt for a bed built for heavier bodies. Anyone who weighs over 230 pounds should opt for a mattress for heavy bodies, even if their weight is healthy for their height.

AS2

Amerisleep’s most popular model, the AS2 adds their responsive Affinity transition layer between the Bio-Pur and Bio-Core foams for zoned pressure relief. It has a medium-firm feel suitable for back and stomach sleepers who want good support with a touch more softness.

The AS2 is a medium-firm mattress, which is the firmness level that is most often recommended to back and stomach sleepers, so it is not surprising that most back and stomach sleepers prefer the AS2 mattress. The AS2’s 12-inch height includes three layers including 7-inches of Bio-Core™, a 3-inch Affinity Layer with HIVE® technology and 40 ILD, and a 2-inch Bio-Pur™ layer with 10 ILD. Recommended for those who want a medium-firm sleeping surface, including heavier sleepers.

Topped with a Celliant® cover that increases blood flow and helps you sleep deeper, the AS2 is a great choice for anyone who wants a medium-firm bio-foam mattress.

AS3

The versatile medium AS3 works well for all sleeping positions. It has a thicker Bio-Pur comfort layer for enhanced pressure relief and cushioning. The Affinity transition layer provides zoned support and responsiveness. It's an excellent option for couples with different firmness preferences.

This 12-inch high AS3 medium firmness mattress is the most popular mattress because it works well for side sleepers and combo sleepers who sleep in multiple positions during the night. The AS3 provides enough softness to cushion shoulders and hips and prevent pressure points, while providing a supportive base that keeps the spine aligned. The top of the mattress feels soft but quickly reaches the Affinity Layer where the medium firm support begins and cushions your body before you reach the firmest layer.

The top layer is 3-inches of Bio-Pur™ comfort, a 2-inch 30 ILD Affinity Layer with HIVE® technology, and a 7-inch Bio-Core™ layer, all topped with the wonderful Celliant® to help you sleep well.

The AS3 is the most common mattress for couples because it is good for different sleeping positions. The Bio-Pur™ and Affinity levels have some give but not too much to be comfortable for side and back sleepers.

AS4

With a plusher feel, the AS4 has an extra thick layer of pressure-relieving Bio-Pur foam making it perfect for side sleepers or those wanting a soft, cloud-like mattress experience. The Affinity transition layer prevents excessive sinking for support.

The medium-soft AS4 is perfect for people who only sleep on their side, providing a soft and responsive feel that is comfy and cozy. The 12-inch height includes a 4-inch Bio-Pur™ comfort layer, 1-inch Affinity Layer with HIVE® technology, and a 7-inch Bio-Core™ layer that is awesome for side sleepers and combo sleepers. You’ll feel as if you’re floating above the mattress while being bathed in the infrared energy from the Celliant® mattress cover that helps tired muscles recover.

The AS4 mattress appeals to side and combo sleepers who live in light and medium-weight bodies. You can see how much the mattress will compress to prevent pressure on your shoulder and hips when you sleep on your side.

AS5

Amerisleep’s softest model, the AS5 has a thick profile with extra Bio-Pur foam for plush, pillowtop feel. An Active Flex layer adds bounce and cooling. With superior pressure relief, it’s ideal for side sleepers seeking a soft and luxurious mattress.

The AS5 has four layers to make this 14-inch high mattress the softest one of them all. In addition to the 7-inch Bio-Core™, 2-inch Affinity Layer with HIVE® technology, 3-inch Bio-Pur™ comfort layer, and a 2-inch Active Flex layer.

The AS5 is perfect for individuals with special concerns about pressure when they are lying in bed, including bedridden individuals, and those who suffer from painful conditions like Fibromyalgia, Gulf War Illness (GWI), and arthritis. The extra softness and cushioning prevents pressure points that can aggravate sore joints or cause bed sores.

In this image, you can see how much support vs comfort layer is in the mattress. The deeper the comfort level, the more of the white Celliant® cover rests above the navy blue bottom layer.

Comfort of Amerisleep Mattress

Choose the right mattress for your sleeping style and you’re sure to be comfortable. The Bio-Pur™ foam bounces back in four seconds when you shift positions, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.

Is Amerisleep good for all Sleep Positions?

Because Amerisleep offers five different styles, they have a solution that will work well for everyone. Choose your mattress based on your sleeping style and weight.

Based on our research, this is what we found about the Amerisleep Mattress:

Sleep Hot or Cool

Using open cell structures and bio-foam in place of petroleum makes Amerisleep mattresses sleep cooler than traditional memory foam. You won’t sleep hot on Amerisleep. Three of our test sleepers reported that Amerisleep was neutral as far as temperature and the fourth who tends to enjoy being warm while she sleeps found it a bit cooler than she prefers.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer refers to how much the mattress transfers movement from one sleeper to another. During our tests, the mattresses did a wonderful job controlling motion transfer. This means you will sleep deeper because your partners movements won’t disturb you or wake you up. You can see that the glass doesn’t jiggle when the man rolls over on the AS3 or AS4. Many people also sleep with their dog or cat which can also transfer motion and prevent them from sleeping well, if their mattress doesn’t limit motion transfer.

Firmness

Your weight affects the feel of a mattress. Individuals who don’t weigh much won’t depress the mattress as much which means the mattress will feel firmer to small people than it does to someone in a larger body. The heavier your body is, the more support you want in the comfort zone to prevent your body from bottoming out on the support layer which is very firm. Amerisleep offers five firmness levels, firm, medium-firm, medium, medium-soft, and soft.

We didn’t have difficulty adjusting to the mattress and slept well the first night. You may need a few nights to adjust. Before I began sleeping on different mattresses frequently, I took a couple of nights to adjust to a new mattress every time I traveled. I’ve become accustomed to changing mattresses frequently and sleep well on the first night if the mattress is good.

If you want extra support or added softness, Amerisleep offers the Lift topper that will satisfy both those needs.

Pain Relief

The right mattress will support and align your spine, reducing pain. It will also prevent pain in your joints from too much pressure. Researchers recommend a medium-firm mattress to most people with back pain, but side sleepers will probably do better with a softer mattress that helps them avoid pressure points in the shoulders and hips.

Side sleepers often find relief from low back pain when they begin sleeping with a pillow between their knees. The angle of a side sleeper’s upper leg often puts pressure on the lower back. The pillow raises the leg and reduces the pressure.

Split King

Marriages often require compromises, but your mattress is not a good place to compromise. If you’re a back sleeper who sleeps best on a firm mattress and your partner is a side sleeper who enjoys a softer mattress, you might think compromise is the only alternative but that’s not the case. With an Amerisleep mattress, you can order a twin xl in the style you prefer and a second twin xl in the style your partner prefers. When lined up side-by-side, they form a king size bed, with each side just right with no compromise.

If you’re worried about the gap or about the beds coming apart, you can add a “Bed bridge” that eliminates the gap and straps that hold the mattresses tightly together for well under $50. If neither of those options feel good to you, there are mattress companies that make their mattresses with two different firmness levels inside one mattress. Our Best Mattresses for Couples article highlights some of those options.

One important reason not to compromise on comfort in your mattress is that sleeping poorly can damage your relationship. People who don’t get enough sleep focus more on negatives, which can make them or their partner unhappy with the relationship.

Although the split king is two separate mattresses, when you put a king-sized fitted sheet on it, it stays together. Also, you can add a bridge that makes the seam between the mattresses imperceptible. Interestingly, if you’ve been on a cruise, ships typically have this arrangement so they can use the room for two singles or one king bed.

Special Notes for Bedridden Individuals

When someone spends most of their time in bed because of an illness, pressure ulcers are a significant problem. The initial sores are caused by too much pressure against the skin which limits blood flow to the area. In the 1st stage, they’re just red and may be tender. In the second stage, they may blister or look like a shallow crater.  In the 2nd stage, permanent damage to the skin may already have occurred due to inadequate blood flow. The 3rd stage has the ulcer (bed sore) deepening. The 4th stage extends to the muscles, tendons, or bone, causing extensive damage.

The 3rd and 4th stage can lead to serious complications that cause serious permanent damage or death from infections in the bone or blood. Sepsis is responsible for about 270,000 deaths each year. Although sepsis can occur in a variety of ways, deep bed sores are a significant source. Sepsis can cause organ failure, permanent organ damage, and septic shock leading to death. Individuals who have diabetes, cancer, AIDS and liver disease are at high risk of developing sepsis.

Researchers have concluded that Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF™) mattresses provide a 49.2% reduction in pressure. During the study, someone who already had a pressure ulcer showed improvement, causing the researchers to call for additional research to see if these mattresses could be considered treatment and not just a preventative surface.

In any event, preventing pressure ulcers is critical to the health of many vulnerable individuals. The significant reduction in pressure when Amerisleep’s AS5 is used, as demonstrated in clinical tests, is sufficient for us to recommend the AS5 for anyone who is bedridden or at risk for bed sores. The mattress also works well on an adjustable bed, which is ideal for someone who must spend long hours in bed.

Amerisleep Value Proposition: Price, Durability, Warranty

The prices listed with the individual mattress details don’t include any discounts. Value evaluations consider price and what you get for the money. The warranty plays a significant role in that evaluation because a longer warranty increases the value of the mattress because you’re assured that you’ll have a mattress (or a replacement) for the duration of the warranty, the longer warranty offered by Amerisleep as well as the company’s reputation, makes Amerisleep a good value when you can buy it on sale.

Amerisleep isn’t a cheap option, but it is a durable one. This is a good place to note that the mattress industry is going through a period of rapid expansion and we’ve already seen some companies come and go. We believe it is important to consider whether a company will be around as long as their warranty. We believe Amerisleep will stand the test of time as a company and as a comfortable mattress.

Warranty

The warranty is longer than many foam mattresses provide. There is a 20-year warranty. During the first decade, the warranty provides full replacement if the mattress visibly sags more than .75” (¾ of an inch) which is a very good warranty. Many mattress companies don’t provide warranty coverage until the mattress sags twice this much. The second decade of the warranty provides 50% of the original purchase price. Shipping and transportation charges aren’t covered by the warranty.

You should use a mattress encasement to protect your mattress because mattresses with moisture damage, burns, cuts, tears, or other damage won’t be eligible for warranty coverage. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase is required for warranty coverage. We recommend keeping an envelope with the purchase information inside the mattress encasement.

100-night Sleep Trial

Amerisleep offers a 100-night in-home sleep trial for all their mattresses. This allows you to sleep on the mattress to determine whether or not it will work well for you. Regardless of which mattress you decide to buy, we recommend that you choose one that offers a sleep trial. The trial begins on the date of delivery.

Customers who return the mattress still leave positive reviews about the customer service they receive during the return process.

Return policy

If you elect to return the Amerisleep mattress within the 100-night sleep trial, the return shipping is free, no questions asked. You’ll get a full refund.

Durability

Amerisleep has been selling mattresses for almost a decade and their products maintain a good reputation. They are thoughtfully designed using advanced sleep science and clean air production methods that increase the ability to craft a consistent product. We expect that the mattresses Amerisleep builds today will also maintain their quality as the years pass.

Best Features of Amerisleep Mattress

Customized Models for Every Sleep Style

Amerisleep reduces pain and can prevent bed sores in bed ridden individuals, there’s almost no motion transfer, and they have a long warranty with excellent customer service. You won’t have to worry about pressure points when you sleep on a mattress designed for your sleeping style.

Does Amerisleep deliver the most important qualities of a good mattress?

Customer testimonials attest to the pain-relieving properties of the right Amerisleep mattress for your sleep style. Our sleep testers also experienced less pain when they slept on the Amerisleep mattresses. Waking up sore is a sign that your mattress is not providing the support your body needs while you sleep. The right mattress can put zip back in your step.

Many people sleep poorly because they get too hot during the night. The open cell technology used in Amerisleep mattresses will keep you cool so you can sleep well.

Safety of Amerisleep

You spend 1/3 of your life in close proximity to your mattress. You don’t want your mattress to expose you to toxic chemicals. Amerisleep mattresses are tested and certified to ensure they do not include mercury, lead, other heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates, and the manufacturing process doesn’t deplete the ozone. They are subjected to random independent testing each year to meet the rigid standards by CertiPUR-US® to ensure consistent quality.

Although some mattresses use toxic chemicals as a fire retardant, Amerisleep isn’t one of those.

Off gassing

We were delighted that neither the AS3 or AS4 had any detectible off gassing when the plastic wrap was removed. I’m very sensitive to chemical smells and often have to allow foam mattresses made with petroleum to air out a week or longer before I can lay on them without irritating my sinuses. I was able to be in the room with the Amerisleep mattresses immediately after they were opened.

What are the most important considerations when you buy a mattress?

A no-risk sleep trial is one of the most important considerations because without it, you can be stuck with a mattress that doesn’t allow you to sleep well. A mattress should also:

Amerisleep checks all the boxes.

How important is a Good Night’s Sleep?

Of the behaviors that are most important to your health and well-being, sleep is the most important. Sleeping poorly reduces self-control which decreases healthy exercise and nutrition because sleep deprived people make poorer decisions than they would make when they are well-rested. A quality mattress is an essential part of good sleep hygiene. Even when you buy a high-quality mattress, you spend far less on the 1/3 of your life you spend sleeping than you spend during the other 2/3. A good mattress is an investment in your quality of life that makes a difference.

Your relationships, health, and success on the sports field, in academics, and at work depend on getting enough sleep. The American Heart Association advised the public of the serious risks inadequate sleep pose to long-term health.

Sleep Quality and Comfort on an Amerisleep Mattress

These ratings reflect the performance when the right mattress for the sleeper’s body type and preferred sleeping position is chosen based on the experiences of our four sleep testers. Below the icons and ratings, explanations are provided for some of the ratings after the chart. It is important to note that the differences between a 10 rating and a 9 are subtle.

Why we subtracted points:

Edge Support

The level of edge support is my least favorite aspect of the Amerisleep mattresses. I really like these mattresses other than this one aspect. It’s manageable. It’s not like you’re going to suddenly fall off the bed, but I still have concerns. Safety and managing safety risks is important. The AS5 could save someone’s life by preventing the development of bedsores that get into the muscle, tendons, and bone and end up causing sepsis. That’s a great feature that ranks high when I look at the mattress from the risk management perspective.

However, bedridden individuals and those who need assistance often sit on the edge of the bed before they transfer to a wheelchair or walker. Sitting on the edge of the Amerisleep creates a slope that can feel as if they’re sliding off. Someone without much muscle control could do so. To counter that, if the Amerisleep is chosen for someone who needs assistance transferring from the bed to a wheelchair, I strongly recommend using sturdy bed rails that they can grip while transferring in and out of bed. You can add sturdy hand rails to adult beds for between $25 and $100.

The second recommendation is to keep beds that an elderly person would sleep in at a height that allows their feet to reach the floor when they sit on the edge of the bed.

Couples may find they are more comfortable on the king size than the queen because laying on the very edge may make them feel as if they’re going to roll off, especially with the AS4 and AS5. This isn’t as much of a concern with the AS1, AS2, or AS3.  Of course, the weight of the sleeper matters. Someone whose body doesn’t weigh very much won’t sink in nearly as much as someone in a heavier body. The softer the mattress, the more it will sink. We had the AS3 and AS4. The AS1 and AS2 should sink less.

You can see in the pictures that the Bio-Pur™ and Affinity layers compress at the edge.

The comfort (Bio-Pur™) and Affinity layers are not as thick in the AS3, so the mattress doesn’t compress as much on the edge. When sitting back from the edge, the AS3 doesn’t compress that much. When you slide closer to the edge, the compression is more significant. For sleepers that are spread out across the mattress instead of sitting with their weight concentrated the way it is when someone is sitting, it will be comfortable to sleep pretty close to the edge of the mattress. We wouldn’t expect any sense of falling with the AS1, AS2, or AS3.

Ordering, Set-up, Delivery, and Returns

Delivery is free in the continental United States. After unpacking the mattress, let it expand for 24 hours before you sleep on it. This allows the foam to fully expand. Most customers report no odor. We didn’t notice any odor when we opened either of the Amerisleep mattresses we tested.

The mattresses aren’t nearly as heavy as a mattress with innersprings. One relatively healthy, strong person can carry them upstairs and do the set-up by themselves although it is easier with two people. Overall, Amerisleep mattress delivery and set-up is excellent.

Ordering is Easy

You can order securely online with a credit or debit card or make a transfer directly from your bank account. They do not offer financing at this time. If you need to finance your mattress purchase, consider Plushbeds, Nectar, or Layla.

Shipping

Shipping within the continental United States, in a box made from post-consumer materials, is free, including free shipping if you return the mattress.

The Amerisleep comes rolled compactly in a box style and is shipped via FedEx. The dimensions of the shipping box are around 19” x 19” x 42” for the Queen size. If the bed will be used upstairs, you’ll probably want a second pair of hands to help you get it up the stairs. If there is an elevator, it will easily fit before it is removed from the box. We recommend moving the mattress to the room where it will be used before you remove it from the box.

Maintenance

The cover zips off for easy cleaning, if needed. There is really no maintenance involved, especially if you take our advice and use a mattress encasement to keep it clean. Even with a washable cover, a liquid spill can ruin a foam mattress, which is why we recommend you use an encasement to protect it. You don’t need to flip the mattress. You can unzip and wash the cover if you decide not to use a mattress encasement.

When you unzip the cover to wash it, the foam remains covered by a well constructed inner lining as shown in the illustration.

Customer Service

Customer reviews rave about the customer service Amerisleep provides. Even people who return their mattress love the customer service they receive. That’s good customer service! They’re friendly, responsive, and helpful. They will do their best to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Frame

When it comes to the frames that are suitable for an Amerisleep mattress, you have several choices. The mattress is fine placed right on the floor, on a dry sheet of plywood that rests on top of your old box spring, on slats, a wood platform, or an adjustable bed.

What do I need to do to care for my mattress?

We recommend that you purchase a mattress protector for any mattress you buy. Spills happen and moisture and mattresses aren’t a good mix. Foam mattresses can experience structural damage if they become wet. All mattresses can become a home to fungi if they become soaked, whether it’s your morning cup of coffee or your older dog having an accident, protecting your investment with a mattress cover is easy and inexpensive.

The cover is machine washable in cold water and hang to dry. Make sure it is completely dry before you put it back on the mattress. The mattress doesn’t need to be flipped or turned because memory foam returns to its shape as soon as you remove the pressure.

Our Testing Results for Amerisleep Mattress

We tested the AS3 and the AS4 in a King configuration composed of two twin xl’s and had four test sleepers:

The side sleeper with the bad shoulder was able to sleep comfortably on the AS4. Both testers with back pain were comfortable on both mattresses. The healthy side sleeper was comfortable on the AS3 and AS4 but preferred the AS4 when she slept alone. She preferred the AS3 when she slept with a partner because they both ended up on the same mattress and with both of them, it was better not to sink in as deeply. Be aware though, that that couple sleeps entwined. Couples who leave a little room between them wouldn’t have the same experience.

Overall, we are impressed with these mattresses. They deliver a supportive mattress that provides a comfortable place to sleep.

The Bottom Line

Amerisleep provides quality mattresses in five comfort levels.

The only way to know if a mattress is right for you is to sleep on it. Amerisleep makes that easy with their 100-night sleep trial. You can try it with no risk. Use our Mattress Buyer’s Guide to help you choose the best mattress for you. We recommend Amerisleep for all types of sleepers, and it is the best in the market for individuals who have limited mobility that requires them to spend most or all of their time in bed due to its ability to reduce the risk of bed sores and the serious complications that can arise from bed sores.

The mattresses are well made, and the company’s warranty and customer service have great reputations.

Can I try Amerisleep in a Store?

Amerisleep has a few retail stores scattered across Arizona and Texas where you can try the mattress in the store. But it is important to note that clinical research has shown that trying a mattress in a store by laying on it doesn’t provide you with the information you need to evaluate the mattress.

When you sleep, your muscles should be able to relax. When you lay on a mattress while you’re awake, your muscles don’t relax the way they do when you’re asleep so you don’t get a real feel for how much the mattress will support your body when your body is limp. If the mattress doesn’t support you, you’re more likely to wake up stiff and sore. The only way to know how you’ll sleep on a mattress is to sleep on it. With Amerisleep’s 100-night sleep trial, you have a no-risk way to know for sure how well you’ll sleep.
