Does Walmart Take CareCredit? Yes, for Eligible Items In Store and Online

Thomas Joseph

Yes. Walmart accepts CareCredit for qualifying health, wellness, and personal care purchases in U.S. stores and on Walmart.com, but not every item in your cart will qualify.

The old short answer that CareCredit only works in Walmart stores is now outdated. CareCredit's official Walmart page says the card works in store and online at Walmart.com, and Synchrony announced that Walmart.com acceptance expanded on April 7, 2026.

Where you can use CareCredit at Walmart

CareCredit says eligible purchases can be made at Walmart stores, Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and Walmart.com. The practical limit is that the charge only applies to qualifying items, so acceptance is tied to the product, not just the checkout lane.

Physical stores Accepted Only qualifying items can be charged
Walmart.com Accepted Item must be sold and shipped by Walmart
Mixed carts Partly accepted Remaining non-qualifying items need another payment method

What counts as an eligible purchase

According to the CareCredit Walmart eligibility page, common qualifying areas include pharmacy, over-the-counter medicine, baby essentials, vision, health and beauty, pet care, exercise and fitness, mattresses and accessories, and medical supplies and equipment.

That page also warns that the category list is directional only, meaning some brands or products inside those departments may still be excluded. For online orders, CareCredit adds another filter: the item must be sold and shipped by Walmart, not a third-party marketplace seller.

How checkout works when your cart has mixed items

CareCredit tells shoppers to use the card as the first payment method. Walmart then applies the CareCredit charge to the qualifying items, and you pay the rest with another card or payment option.

That means you do not need a separate transaction just because your basket includes non-health items. You do, however, need to expect a split payment if your order mixes eligible and ineligible products.

What changed in 2026

The biggest update is online use. Synchrony's April 7, 2026 announcement says CareCredit can now be used for eligible purchases on Walmart.com, with home delivery and in-store pickup, and that broader categories such as medical supplies, fitness products, and sleep essentials were added.

So if you saw older articles saying CareCredit is store-only at Walmart, that was true before this 2026 expansion but is no longer the current rule.

Returns, refunds, and financing limits

CareCredit says Walmart's standard return policies apply to eligible purchases made with the card, and refunds are credited back to the CareCredit account used for the original sale. The page also says the card used in the transaction needs to be present.

One more limit matters if you are hoping for deferred-interest financing: the same official page says Walmart purchases do not qualify for promotional financing on a CareCredit card.

Common mistakes to avoid

Bottom line

Walmart does take CareCredit, and as of August 30, 2026 that includes both U.S. stores and Walmart.com. The catch is that only qualifying health, wellness, and personal care items are eligible, online orders must be sold and shipped by Walmart, and any leftover items need a second payment method.
