Buyer’s Guide: How to Pick the Best Wrestling Mats?

Factors to Consider Before You Buy a Wrestling Mat

When shopping for a wrestling mat, it's important to keep in mind that it can wear over time. This can mean spending money on a repair service or on materials for a do-it-yourself repair. Though they can withstand heavy use for many years, wrestling mats still require regular maintenance. Some simple steps to maintain your mat include checking the coating for cracks, folding it in alternate directions, and storing it flat.

The level of impact protection

Different types of foam will perform differently in different types of impact. The manufacturer should provide documentation detailing the impact protection levels of the mats they sell. You should also look for anti-skid features on the mats. These features will help you prevent injuries for your athletes.

Types

Wrestling mats come in a variety of types, with each type providing unique advantages. For example, there are roll-out mats, which are great for small areas, and larger mats, which are more suitable for larger rooms. Roll-out mats are typically made of closed-cell foam, which provides a firm surface with little give for cushioning takedowns. However, roll-out mats can be heavy and awkward to handle, and they often require several layers of tape to keep them together. Additionally, they may not fit tightly against the walls.

Thickness

When choosing a wrestling mat, thickness is a key consideration. For example, a mat with 2-inches of cross-linked polyethylene foam will be 60 percent more impact-absorbing than one with 1-1/4-inch. However, when determining the thickness of a mat, it is important to consider a number of factors, including durability and cost.

Durability

The durability of a wrestling mat is an important consideration in a competitive wrestling match. A poorly constructed mat can result in injuries to athletes. The foam used in wrestling mats should meet ASTM standards. Various types of foam have different performance characteristics. The manufacturer should provide you with the necessary documentation to verify the durability of the mat. For example, you can check if it has passed the ASTM F 355-01 test method for shock-absorbing properties.

Cost

The cost of a wrestling mat varies widely, depending on its size and quality. A professional-grade mat can cost between six and eight thousand dollars. It can be used at home as well as in athletic institutions. Before you make a purchase, consider your needs and budget.

A wrestling mat is a large and thick piece of foam that is designed to provide protection for athletes. The mat is usually made of dense, high-quality foam and it can be either indoor or outdoor. A wrestling mat can be used on the floor, on a platform, or on a raised surface.

How much does a wrestling mat cost?

The cost of a wrestling mat depends on the size and thickness as well as the quality of materials used to make it. For example, an average sized wrestling mat will cost between $500-$1000 while an expensive one will cost up to $8,500 and more.

How thick should wrestling mats be?

The thickness of wrestling mats' most common range is from 1 inch to 2 inches. The thinness of 1-inch provides enough cushion to protect against light and low falls, but the added firmness for movement is a lot better for techniques like stand-ups. And 2-inch thick wrestling mats provide the perfect protection for groundwork and slams. While thicker mats do often protect better, deliberately stiff ones may not have the desired effect.

Are foam mats good for wrestling?

The foam mat is a great surface for practicing and training in the sport of wrestling, but it does have some downsides. The mat is not as good at absorbing shock as a traditional wrestling mat, so it may be more likely to cause injury if used improperly. The foam mat is also less durable than a traditional mat and will need to be replaced more often.

How big is a 10x10 wrestling mat?

The 10' x 10' Wrestling Mat comes in two parts, a 5' x 10' mat to cover the outer circle and a 5' x 10' mat to cover the inside circle. The mat circle is 8 feet in diameter for outside circles and 40 inches in diameter for the inner circle. The mats are lightweight and fold into half or quarters for easy storage.

It is used in high school, college, and professional wrestling competitions. These mats are also used in martial arts studios to practice judo, jujitsu, and tae kwon.

How long should a wrestling mat last?

The lifespan of a wrestling mat depends on the quality and type of the mat, as well as how often it is used. A typical wrestling mat will last for 2-3 years if it is used only occasionally. However, if it is used every day, then it will not last more than one year.

How often should wrestling mats be cleaned?

If you want to know how often wrestling mats should be cleaned, you need to know the type of mat. There are two main types of wrestling mats - oil-based and water-based. For oil-based mats, you will need to clean them after every use. For water-based mats, they should be cleaned once a week or monthly.

What size is a full-size wrestling mat?

Mats typically come in a 38' x 38' size with a minimum 28' wrestling circle in High School. NCAA rules require a mat size of 42' x 42' with a minimum wrestling circle of 32'.

Which are the best wrestling mats for home

A good home wrestling mat has a vinyl surface. This is non-abrasive, meaning it won't cause floor burns and will also prevent water absorption. A vinyl mat will also provide plenty of cushions; as with any wrestling mat, this must be considered. As wrestling floors have an impactful way of taking wear and tear, it's important to choose the right floor to last while maintaining its effectiveness.
