Not only are they lightweight, but their battery will last an entire day. Plus, if you get one with a quality keyboard attached, it'll be everything that any writer needs when away from their office space.

Writing tablets are versatile devices that can serve a variety of purposes, such as a media center, productivity tool, internet browser, and ebook reader. They are portable writing machines, and you can take them to coffee shops and the beach, or travel and be in the field. Because they are very easy to carry.

Not sure which tablet is right for you? We can help. In this article, we’ll walk you through the different options and help you make a decision.

What should you consider before buying a writing tablet?

Operating System

While writers may prefer to use a particular operating system before they need to buy a writing tablet, such as Apple iPadOS, Google Android, Microsoft Windows, or Google ChromeOS.

The balance between performance

A good product is one that you can easily take with you, but it also needs to serve its purpose well.

• Smaller tablets, those with 6 or 8-inch screens are very easy to transport—but they’re better for making short notes rather than writing at length.

• 10- and 11-inch tablets with Retina displays are the best of both worlds: they're large enough that text is easy to read but still small and portable.

• If you want your tablet to serve as your go-to writing device, pick one with a big screen. 12- and 13-inch tablets are available and provide a closer experience to using a regular laptop.

Internet Connectivity

Some tablets come with mobile data connectivity, which is a lifesaver if you're not working from home. This way, you can easily connect to the internet and access all of your documents from anywhere. You'll also be able to stay in touch with others, conduct research online, and use web-based applications. In addition, most tablets have built-in Wi-Fi so you can always stay connected. And for even more convenience, Bluetooth allows you to connect external devices like headphones or a keyboard.

Storage

Text documents take up very little space on your phone. It all depends on the size and number of other files you have. You'll likely need the most storage for photos and videos, but don't forget about ebooks and other digital reference materials.

For best results, aim for a minimum of 64 GB or better yet, 128 GB. If that's not possible, go for a model that gives you the option to expand your storage using a Mini SD card.

Battery life

Writing uses less power than other tasks like video editing, gaming, and watching videos. You have a better chance than usual of getting a full day’s use out of your device. A battery life of 10+ hours is ideal.

Screen Size

You can find tablet screens that measure 8-13 inches; some companies will offer a variety of options. The screens that are bigger will be less tiring on the eyes, and those with high pixel density too. Smaller screens don't require as much battery power and they're more portable.

• If you want a tablet primarily for writing, get one with a screen size of 12 inches or larger.

• The standard sizes for these devices are 9.7-11 inches, which happens to be my preferred size for writing on the go due to its portability and suitable screen size.

• Tablets that are around 8 inches in size are considered small. While their screens might be too small for some writing tasks, their portability makes them ideal for capturing ideas when on the go.

Accessory

If you want to write faster, then a keyboard and stylus are two accessories that you should definitely consider.

• Although all tablets have touch screens, their on-screen keyboards can only be used for a limited amount of writing. If you need to do extensive writing, it will be much easier and more productive to use a hardware keyboard.

• While not every writer needs a stylus, they can come in handy for jotting down ideas, taking notes by hand, brainstorming sessions, drawing diagrams, and editing documents.

Pen pressure sensitivity

Buying a writing tablet with good pen pressure sensitivity is essential to getting your work done efficiently. A pen that is too stiff will make drawing more difficult and can lead to cramps and swelling in your hands. Similarly, a soft pen will make your work easier, but can also cause discomfort. If you feel your pen is too stiff, you can adjust its pressure settings to fix the problem.

A writing tablet and a drawing tablet are both types of tablets, but they have different purposes. A writing tablet is used for writing, while a drawing tablet is used for drawing. Is it better to write on paper or tablet?

There are pros and cons to both paper and tablet writing, but ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

• With a paper notebook, you can easily flip through the pages to find a specific note, and you can write in any type of pen or pencil you want. However, if you run out of paper, your only option is to start a new notebook.
• With a tablet, you can store an unlimited amount of notes and documents, and you can easily search for specific words or phrases. However, it can be difficult to write in a precise location on a touch screen, and some people find that tablets are more prone to getting dirty and damaged than paper notebooks.
