Does Walmart Deliver to P.O. Boxes? What Works Instead

Why P.O. Boxes usually do not work

Walmart's current shopping help page explains that shipped items go out via UPS, FedEx, or another carrier. That matters because UPS is explicit: it ships only to a valid street address and does not deliver to P.O. boxes.

So even before you get into special cases, the default Walmart setup is built around deliverable street addresses for both shipping and store delivery.

Shipping and delivery are different, but both expect a real address

Walmart separates your options into pickup, delivery from store, and shipping on its site and app help page. Delivery from store is described as bringing the order to your home, and its Guided Delivery Instructions page tells shoppers to enter an address in correct USPS format so drivers can find the drop-off point.

That is different from a mailing box. A P.O. Box is not a doorstep, apartment entry, or business receiving point, so it does not fit Walmart's delivery workflow well even when an order is not moving through UPS.

The one FedEx exception is not a reliable Walmart workaround

FedEx says the only way to deliver to domestic P.O. boxes is FedEx Ground Economy, and it labels that service contract-only on its shipping FAQ. That means the exception exists at the carrier level, but it is not something a Walmart customer can count on for an ordinary order.

If a Walmart item happens to move through a compatible carrier path, it may work. But that is not the same as Walmart supporting P.O. Box delivery as a normal checkout option.

Street-address mailbox services are the cleanest workaround

If you need privacy or do not want home delivery, the strongest workaround is usually a mailbox service that gives you a street-format address. The UPS Store mailbox page says you get a real street address rather than a P.O. Box number and that the service accepts deliveries from all carriers.

That fits Walmart's carrier mix much better than a postal box does.

What USPS can do, and what it cannot do

USPS Delivery Instructions can sometimes hold an eligible package for pickup at your post office after the shipment is already in the USPS system. That is helpful, but it is not the same thing as entering a P.O. Box as the original Walmart destination.

Because Walmart says shipped items may go by UPS, FedEx, or another carrier, a USPS-only workaround is never guaranteed at checkout.

If Walmart says your package was delivered but you cannot find it

Walmart's Order Not Received page says to check the delivery location, review the delivery confirmation, ask neighbors or household members, and verify the address saved in your account. For shipping orders, Walmart also says to wait two business days because carriers sometimes mark packages delivered before they arrive.

This matters even more when you are using any nonstandard receiving arrangement, because small address mistakes create extra failure points.

For most shoppers, the practical answer is no: do not expect Walmart to deliver to a P.O. Box. Use a normal street address whenever possible. If you need an alternative, a street-address mailbox service is the safest workaround, and USPS hold-for-pickup only helps in the narrower case where the shipment is already eligible inside USPS.
