Hunting Scent Eliminator Buying Guide - What You Need to Know!

Hunting scent eliminators are a perfect way to keep the game animals away from your property. You can use these products in many ways and they are not only limited to scents.

Hunting scent eliminators will help you keep your animal population down and protect your hunting grounds. It is important that you know what type of scent elimination product will work for your hunt.

Critical Considerations

Type

There're many various types of hunting scent eliminators to choose from. There are three main types of cover scents - earthy ones, those made from deer urine, and those made from fox urine.

Earthy cologne is made of natural scents to cover the unpleasant smell of a human body. Some dirt, like that found in woods, farms, and swamps, has a certain smell that blends seamlessly with the environment. Traditional hunting products use tree oil from such species as pine, spruce, balsam fir, cedar and hemlock to mask your scent.

The odor of deer urine can mask human scents and also attract deer to your area. The psychology behind this is simple: the scent of deer urine leads animals to believe that deer have been in the vicinity and, therefore, the area is safe.

Fox urine is an excellent hunting scent eliminator because it has a strong musky odor. Its great for getting game such as deer, moose, elk, bear or other large mammals.

Ingredients

The ingredients in hunting scent eliminations define their quality. Some of the best moisturizers contain organic ingredients that are less likely to cause irritation.

A great organic hunting scent eliminator will use only natural ingredients. This can include tree oil, urine, herbs, and other things that hunters may find in the woods.

Charcoal or activated carbon: Activate this carbon or charcoal in a process that creates small holes on the surface. The built-in filter works as a natural purifier to filter out germs and odors. The porosity of these materials means they can trap odors and offer some degree of protection against your natural scent.

Antimicrobials: Antimicrobial agents are a type of drugs that can kill harmful bacteria and prevent the spread of germs and infections. DWR's odor blockers infiltrate the cell walls of bacteria and immobilize them, preventing odors.

Zeolite: The ash and salt found in this mineral are created through volcanic activity. The porous nature of the furniture means it absorbs and eliminates odors in the environment.

Ozone: This is an odor-neutralizing gas. It has the ability to get rid of smelly molecules by absorbing them.

Engineered polymer resin: This synthetic compound features both large and small pores meaning it is effective at trapping odors and removing your scent.

FEATURES

Formula

Hunting scent eliminators are readily available in a variety of forms such as spray, soap and shampoo, dry sheets, wipes, and machinery.

• Scent eliminator sprays are the easiest and most can be used in a variety of ways. Be sure to apply them to your body AND your hunting gear for the best chance of staying dry. Oral sprays are usually affordable and highly effective.
• Scent eliminator soaps or shampoos are the most common options for hunting scent elimination. Dipping yourself in a fragrant bath can help cover your scent when you're hunting. Some scent-eliminating soaps are used to clean your clothes and other hunting gear.
• Scent eliminator wipes and sheets enable you to cleanse your skin and clothes even when you are on the go.
• Scent-Eliminator machines produce ozone, which is what does the actual scent-eliminating. You could set up a game cam to help control odor. Additionally, these machines do not produce a continuous stream of ozone, meaning they’re not always the best option. A scent eliminator for hunting is also not a great idea if you're going to be on the move because you'll have to carry it around. In a general sense, these machines work best as secondary solutions in conjunction with another method.

Drying time

For spray or wipes, look for an option that dries quickly. You don’t want to head out into the cold hunting with wet gear or clothes. An eliminator that dries quickly allows you to get right down to business as soon as possible.

Non-staining

Hunting scent eliminators can stain clothes if they come into contact with them. Odors from clothes can give away your position to nearby animals and make them react in a way that will affect your mission. It is best to use water-based, non-staining products such as the one with our scent elimination technology. When picking out new clothes for a special occasion or outfit, make sure to read the label and look for any color-fast settings.

TIPS

• Start by washing your laundry using CLEAN RINSE to remove odors from your clothes. To mask your scent, you should use a scent removal soap before hunting. Hang your clothes out outside and pack them in clear, sealable plastic bags when traveling.
• I recommend using scent-eliminating soap the morning of your hunting trip. You should try spraying your clothes before you get to work, so they don’t stink.
• We suggest you also use a toothpaste that is undetectable by animals, such as cat and dog toothpaste. A lot of times, toothpaste can leave a bright and artificial film on your teeth. Use baking soda instead because it's a proven odor eliminator.
