What to consider before buying an avocado

Consider the color of the avocado

One of the most common features you will notice about avocados is the color. Every maturity stage of avocado has its color. However, some other factors influence the color of avocados. The variety of avocados also goes a long way in determining their color.

Ripe avocados are commonly dark in color. They might get a black color with traces of green around them when they are getting ripe. If you plan to make use of the avocado immediately after you get home, we advise you choose the ones with dark colors.

Go for the green-colored avocado if you plan to use it in a few days. Some varieties like Reed, Ettinger, Fuerte, and Sharwill still maintain a green color even when they are ripe. It is very essential to be able to differentiate.

Consider your flavor preference

Most avocados have similar tastes, they have different flavors. This is why many people prefer one avocado to another one. When using avocado for your dishes or special cuisines, you should know the right taste and flavor to select. It will go a long way to give a taste to your meal. Some of these avocados have nutty flavors, while some are very light in taste. Both taste very much okay but preference matters.

Examples of avocados with nutty flavors are Gwen, Hass lamb, Hass, Sharwill, Reed. Bacon and Zutano commonly have a lighter taste. The choice of your avocado should be based on your recipe.

Consider the peeling characteristics

There are numerous varieties of avocados. They all have their peeling characteristics. Some are very easy to peel, while some prove difficult when peeling. The ones that require more effort to remove their skin perfectly can end up messing up your hands. If you are always time conscious or you are in a hurry, then you should opt for the easy peeled ones. If you are not in a hurry, then you can choose anyone.

Ettinger avocados are the hardest to peel. Zutano comes with less effort while peeling compared to the former. Bacon, Fuerte, Hass, Pinkerton are very easy to peel. Most people opt for them.

Consider how ripe it is

Knowing how to spot a ripe avocado will help you avoid a lot of issues. If you are looking for what will last for a couple of days and you end up buying an over-ripe avocado, then it is of no use. It will get spoilt, leading to wastage of resources and effort used in buying it. If an avocado looks like a ripe one, you should still go ahead to feel how ripe it is.

Squeeze it gently by holding it in the palm of your hand. A ripe avocado should be firm, but it should not be too soft. If it is hard, it is unripe. It will last for several days. If it is very soft, it is overripe, avoid it unless you will consume it in a few hours. When buying avocado in large quantities, you should mix the stages. Choose, the ripe and unripe ones.

Consider the oil content of the avocado

As you know there are varieties of avocado worldwide. Some have higher oil content, while some have lesser oil content. The ones with higher oil content mean they have more fat content. If you are checking your fat diet, then you have to pay close attention to the oil content.

Pinkerton, Hass, Sharwill, and Fuerte contains high oil.

Avocados contain a quality amount of nutrients, minerals, fiber, etc. This benefits your health in several ways. The essential tips above will assist you in making the right decision when buying avocados.
